Campaign gives evidence to North East Review panel
24 September 2008

The Support the PRH campaign today (24th September) gave evidence to the panel of experts conducting the PCT's further review of health services in the north east of the county. The campaign's submission to the review focused on the need to retain consultant-led maternity services at the Princess Royal Hospital, with the provision of a midwife-led unit as a minimum level of service.

The submission makes the following points:

   1. Maternity capacity is being wasted at the PRH and overloaded at the Royal Sussex County Hospital
   2. The proposals undermine the achievements of BSUH
   3. The loss of the maternity unit would result in the loss of a pioneering special care baby unit
   4. Centralisation gives an enhanced risk to mothers in transfer
   5. Sustainability of the intensive care unit is threatened
   6. Eradication of patient choice
   7. That an independent scrutiny committee has opposed the plans
