GP's
campaign derails PCT claim of clinical support
Dr Herry Ashby, a GP from Newick, who has been working closely with the Support the PRH campaign, announced at a recent public meeting in Haywards Heath that 180 GPs, covering the whole of Mid Sussex, and an area stretching from Horsham to Lewes, believe the proposals would be detrimental to patient care.
The GPs represent almost 300,000 patients, and the move is the latest sign that the PCT's plans do not command the support of local clinicians. In recent weeks, a growing number of GPs, Consultants and Midwives have been speaking publicly to oppose the changes.
The PCT have so far been able to produce only a handful of clinicians in the whole of West Sussex in favour of the downgrading of the PRH - none of whom are from Mid Sussex, or have patients who might need the PRH's services.
Speaking at the public meeting on 26th September, Dr Herry Ashby said: "We [GPs] have not been consulted about these proposals and we do not think they are fundamentally safe for our patients. There is not a single GP in this area who thinks options A, B or C are appropriate". |
