Health authorities delay PRH consultation - again
28 February 2007

The South East Strategic Health Authority have announced that the consultation into service changes at the PRH has been delayed again - this time until the local authority elections in May.

The delay will result in more uncertainly for patients and NHS staff at the Princess Royal Hospital. Speaking to the Mid Sussex Times, Mid Sussex MP Nicholas Soames said: "This is being driven by money and not patient care but if you look at the number of patients using A&E at the Princess Royal Hospital and you look at the extra capacity needed in Brighton, the sums don't add up"

Arundel & South Downs MP Nick Herbert said: "I welcome the delay, which suggests that serious questions remain unanswered about the potential downgrading of our three local hospitals to only one major general hospital in West Sussex"

"The 250,000 people who have signed petitions and the 25,000 who have marched [in West Sussex] have had an effect. I urge local people to continue campaigning to ensure that local and accessible health care services are preserved"
