50,000 say
"NO" to PRH downgrading Local MPs Nicholas Soames and Nick Herbert have revealed that over 50,000 people across Mid Sussex have now signed the Support the Princess Royal Hospital petition, against any downgrading of Haywards Heath’s hospital.
The new total was hit during the campaign’s action day in Haywards Heath on Saturday, at which 1,333 signatures were collected. MPs plan to hand the petition in to the Secretary of State for Health early next year.
Mid
Arundel & South Downs MP Nick Herbert commented: “The public consultation has been put back until the spring partly because of public outcry. We must keep up the pressure and increase the number of people signing the petition and showing their support.”
The Support the PRH Campaign are holding a 24-hour vigil from 2pm on Saturday 9th December to 2pm on Sunday 10th December. Local residents are urged to come along to the vigil, at the side of the entrance to the PRH, for an hour to light a candle and write a postcard to NHS Chief Executives John Wilderspin and Candy Morris, who are making decisions about reconfigurations of local hospital services.
Nicholas Soames says: “It is vital that everyone in Mid Sussex comes along for an hour to again show support for the PRH. The support for the petition has been excellent, but we need to do even more to secure our hospital’s future. Writing a postcard explaining why you want to save services at the PRH will send a very powerful message to the NHS Chief Executives”
The campaign
are also asking for volunteers to help distribute thousands of leaflets
around Mid Sussex advertising the campaign’s vigil. Any resident who can
deliver a road or two near them should email
